It’s not easy being green, but it sure is easy to get into the Green Album. Featuring covers of Muppet songs by contemporary hit makers like [lastfm]OK Go[/lastfm], [lastfm]My Morning Jacket[/lastfm], and [lastfm]The Airborne Toxic Event[/lastfm], Muppets: The Green Album is sure to be a stroll down memory lane.

The album opens with the The Muppet Show Theme and runs into a 12 song trip back to the time before CGI animation when puppets ruled the Earth, or at least your television. [lastfm]Weezer[/lastfm], who had previously collaborated with Kermit and the gang in their music video for “Keep Fishin’,” joins up with with [lastfm]Paramore[/lastfm]’s Hayley Williams for a stunning rendition of “The Rainbow Connection,” and [lastfm]The Fray[/lastfm] update “Mahna Mahna,” the catchiest song of nonsense words ever.

Other highlights include Andrew Bird singing the classic “Bein’ Green” and Rachael Yamagata’s album closer “I’m Going to Go Back There Someday,” originally performed by Gonzo the Great for the first Muppets movie over 30 years ago. The album is out today (Tuesday, Aug. 23).
