M.I.A. will attempt to make the summer of 2012 her own with the release of an as-yet-untitled fourth album.

Aside from producing an Amy Winehouse tribute song entitled “27” and working on a forthcoming collaboration with Madonna, 2011 was a relatively quiet year for the British musician.

In anticipation of her return, Last.fm Trends looks back at her scrobbles so far.

M.I.A. broke out in 2007 due to the massive success of her single “Paper Planes”, taken from her second album Kala. The track has been a steadfast fan favorite since and is consistently her most listened to track every week. Last week it it was listened to by 7,685 listeners, giving it a current total scrobble count of 6,319,765.

Despite having less time to rack up the scrobbles, it is safe to say 2010’s Maya wasn’t the success M.I.A. would have been hoping for. Scrobbled 2,388,045 times, only one track from it, “XXXO”, features in the top five of her latest top weekly tracks chart.

The graph below shows how weekly scrobbles peaked around the release of Maya however the hype was over quickly and weekly scrobbles are now slightly lower than they were before the release of Maya.
