Katy Perry sat down for a pretty fantastic interview with Bridemaids‘ Kristen Wiig to talk about Katy’s recent world tour, musical inspiration and what’s on the horizon for the Pop Diva… and believe it or not, it looks like Katy’s going to some dark places (musically speaking). Keep reading to get all the details!

Interview Magazine just published Katy Perry’s full interview with SNL vet (and Bridesmaids creator) Kristen Wiig, and it’s a good read. We highly suggest you head over and check it out (if for no other reason that to find out what, exactly, a “chicken bomb” is), but the most intriguing part of the article is when Katy explains what she has planned for her next album!

Rather than simply rehash the success Katy has found with Teenage Dream, it looks like her next project will be quite a bit darker– no doubt taking into account her recent messy split from Russell Brand, Katy cites classic “angry breakup albums” like Alanis Morisette’s Jagged Little Pill and Fiona Apple’s Tidal among her all-time favorites, before hinting “…my music is about to get real f–king dark.”

I think it’s awesome that Katy is going to shake things up a bit and not stick to the same, old formula she’s already mastered… it speaks volumes to her as an artist that she’s willing to go out on a limb and challenge herself with something new and different. As Katy puts it in her interview:

“If you keep on doing the same role, you’ll be typecast. I just feel like I’m going to be criticized regardless of what I do next, so I might as well do something that I feel really passionate about.”

Exactly how the Pop Princess will merge her bubblegum sound with a new darker aesthetic remains to be seen, but if you’re anything like me this news is probably pretty exciting!
