Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger Talks Pyro, “F-Bombs”

Nickelback’s “Here & Now” tour hits the XL Center on Friday, April 27 and lead singer Chad Kroeger wants people to know they won’t feel cheated. Between a floating, rotating stage and huge pyro displays, it will be a non-stop over-the-top visual experience, the Canadian told Craig & Company.

He also points out it’s a true “rock” show. Meaning you may want to leave the kids at home!

“This show is a monstrosity.” Chad teases. “We have this arena we’ve had for about two weeks now. We finished last night at 3:30 a.m. thinking ‘should we take some stuff out of the show’?”

The new tour will clearly be an elaborate one. Chad continues explaining, “There’s a stage that comes out of the sky, it spins, a screen splits apart six ways and comes back together, and the pyro and explosions…” It’s a far way from the Canadian rocker’s early days– he admits his first concert ever was family-subsidized!  His Dad paid the band $500 to play a horseman’s club in Calgary, and their first task was to learn how to cover the most crucial song to know at the time– George Thorogood’s “Get a Haircut and Get a Real Job.”  A few years, a few records and thousands of concerts later, Chad is at least halfway there… he opted to chop off his long, metalhead-style hair!

Chad will get to show off his new ‘do (and Nickelback’s rocking new songs from “Here and Now”) when they hit the XL Center in Hartford on April 27th.  The show isn’t very family friendly, but Chad does try to tone down profanity. “I look down into the audience and see really young kids and I’m like Mom? You couldn’t find a babysitter?” he laughs.

“We have toned down the video screen for ‘Something In Your Mouth’ though. … There’s going to be metal, you’re not going to hear ‘How You Remind Me’ for two hours straight.”

Chad and Nickelback will be at the XL Center April 27. Tickets are available at
