Last year Boys Like Girls decided to take a year off to reassess their place in the music world. Certain there was no longer a spot for them with guitar driven music, they weren’t sure what would become of the band.

“I think we took a break because the music industry had sort of moved on to dance, and it was scary for a rock band. At the tail end of our last record cycle, our last single, radio stations were like, ‘We love it, we just want a mix without guitars,'” frontman Martin Johnson told MTV News.

Johnson further expressed the band’s concern at leaving their mark in music.

“You can’t change the way music is going, so how do we make this work? How do we put out a record that stays relevant for our fans and stays relevant for us? It was tough. We wrote a record and it didn’t feel true to the band, so we threw it out. And so we took a little minute.”

Lucky for fans, the band didn’t call it quits. Last month Boys Like Girls released a new EP titled Crazy World. An introduction to the full-length album which is due out this fall, the EP includes band’s first single “Be Your Everything.”

The song is a sweet sentiment of professing one’s love for another as Johnson sings “I’ll be your shelter/I’ll be your storm/I’ll make you shiver/I’ll keep you warm/Whatever weather, baby I’m yours.”

The music video of “Be Your Everything” tells a different story as it takes place in a post apocalyptic world where “the world has littered itself to death.”

Johnson revealed the plot line behind the video.

“I’m searching for life on the planet and there’s one girl left and she’s found the last flower on earth,” he said. “I don’t know if it’s love or procreation, or what it is but humanity will survive. We’ll get through it.”

With Johnson’s smooth vocals and the band’s soaring guitar parts fans will be glad to know Boys Like Girls haven’t made a departure from their familiar sound.
