The Voice Season One contender Vicci Martinez stopped by for an intimate performance, and she caught everyone up to date on what she’s been doing since her time on hit series.

Vicci Martinez, who ultimately lost to Javier Colon on the premiere season of The Voice, didn’t let that loss slow her down. Her experience on the show, with Cee-Lo Green as her coach helped her sign a record deal, and she is currently on the road promoting her debut album “Vicci.” Martinez played several songs from the album, including “Touch the Fire,” “I Can Love,” and “Come Along,” he first single which she recorded with former coach Cee-Lo.

Martinez chose “Come Along” as her first single because, even though she thinks she’s written stronger songs musically, the lyrics of this single, in the midst of a heated Presidential election, just felt right. “I don’t care who you vote for, as long as you do something,” said Martinez. She feels her background and recent emergence into being more socially-minded makes the song something of an anthem. “My parents didn’t vote. I’m not with that anymore… I wanted to be the voice for people like me.”

The singer isn’t done with her Voice coach, either– in addition to teaming up on this single, Vicci is on board for Cee-Lo’s Christmas Special, which is currently filming in Las Vegas. Martinez laughed at how strange it was to be wearing a winter wardrobe, complete with heavy jackets and scarves in the middle of the desert. “It’s like 90 degrees outside,” she joked. “Are you kidding me??”

Vicci also performed “Hold Me Darling,” a song she penned about a breakup, and she recalled that it was awkward in that she got back together with the subject of the song. In the end, it still didn’t work out for Vicci on a personal level, but as an artist, the two again parted ways, which gave her what she needed to finish the song. “We broke up and I had more material,” she said.

Martinez ended her performance with a cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” a song she performed on The Voice— but almost wasn’t allowed to. “They weren’t gonna let me do [this song]. They wanted me to do another P!nk or Katy Perry song,” Vicci said. The network was apparently concerned that younger viewers wouldn’t recognize the 1974 song, but Vicci had a different outlook, which ultimately came out on top. “If they don’t know this song, they should learn it,” she quipped.
