The Acoustic Cafe With Goo Goo Dolls Rocked Hartford

Last night, the Goo Goo Dolls hit the stage at the Russian Lady in downtown Hartford with an amazing four-song set for an intimate crowd of under 50 diehard fans.

The band wasted no time as they took the stage an immediately kicked things off with their classic song “Slide,” which got the crowd amped up right away.

Johnny Rzeznik took a moment to greet the crowd, composed of some of the Goo Goo Dolls’ biggest Hartford fans, as he said jokingly “Aren’t you just the lucky people,” before adding “I’m lucky to be here, too.”

From there, the band jumped into “Rebel Beat,” the first single off their upcoming album Magnetic.  They followed up with a special preview of another new song from the June release, a shanty-style sing along called “Come To Me.”  It was a new sound for the rockers, but one that definitely worked for them.  “It sounds like I should have a beard,” Rzeznik joked about singing the folksy new song. “I don’t mean like Liberace’s wife, kind of beard.”

The lead singer also poked fun at the fans eager to record the entire performance on their camera phones, saying “Make sure you post these videos on YouTube as soon as you get home. That way, some intern at Warner Bros will have to spend his weekend going ‘Argh!’ instead of hanging out with his hipster friends.”

From there, the band treated their fans to another classic, ending their set with “Broadway” off their triple-platinum album Dizzy Up The Girl.  And with that, the show was over, and a gorgeous night in Hartford continued, as echoes of the Goo Goo Dolls’ rocking set continued to sound like a true “Rebel Beat.”
