Johnny Rzeznik Talks Goo Goo Dolls Spring Tour & More Backstage at the GRAMMYs

Johnny Rzeznik was hanging out backstage at the Grammys, and he caught up with Damon Scott and Gina J! The Goo Goo Dolls frontman gave some details on all the big shows the band has lined up for 2014, including their recently announced acoustic tour this spring!

“Life is great man,” said Rzeznik. “We are just getting together to go play some stuff at the Super Bowl, and some VH1 party out on Staten Island [with] Daughtry.”

The Goo Goo Dolls had a busy 2013, hitting the road in support of their latest release, Magnetic. The band will continue to travel this year, recently announcing an acoustic spring tour accompanied by the L.A. indie group, Run River North.

“The spring tour is called The Otis Midnight Sessions, and it’s an all-acoustic show where we are sort of fusing two bands together,” said Rzeznik. “Some of the members of the opening band are going to play with us, so we are going to have an eight or nine piece band playing all the old songs. We a going to go a little bit deeper in the tracks. We are actually making a documentary film about it too.”

The twelve-date tour will stop in more intimate venues, including The Ridgefield Playhouse in Connecticut on April 8th. Rzeznik spoke fondly of the band’s intimate Acoustic Café performance at the Russian Lady in Hartford last April. “That was really, really fantastic. We had a great time!”

Another big highlight for the band and their fans last year was the Goo Goo Dolls’ highly publicized summer tour with Matchbox Twenty. Can we expect another big team up in 2014?

“We got a big tour coming up in the summer,” Rzeznik hinted. “But I can’t announce anything about that yet!”
