Avril Lavigne’s video for her new single “Hello Kitty” was released this week and it didn’t take long for criticism to come flying in from all sides.

It’s obviously not news for people to dislike something on the web… I mean, most people seem to go online for the sole purpose of yelling and screaming about something new every day.

But this case was different. Instead of just insulting the song, there was a wave of racism accusations being thrown at Avril for the video, which was shot in Tokyo.

The singer is dressed in a Katy Perry-esque cupcake tutu and is followed around by four Asian girls dressed in identical outfits. As they make their way around the city, Lavigne picks up some candy and sits down for some sushi and sake.

Silly? Sure. Racist? Well, let Avril take that question.

What do you think? Is Avril being racist in this video or is this just another case of people overreacting?
