With Fourth of July weekend right around the corner, here are some ideas to help you celebrate the birthday of the greatest country in the world, whether you choose to take a trip or stay at home.

Best Fest

In Connecticut, Independence Day doesn’t officially end until the capital city hosts its traditional Riverfest. At this free event, you can celebrate America by doing what we do best: eat, drink and be merry. Local musicians will be there to serenade you, and at 9 p.m. look to the sky for some of the best firework displays this side of New England. If Riverfest is too far, check out these other parties happening in your neighborhood.

Watch Some Baseball!

The Rock Cats take on the Binghamton Mets on July 3rd at the New Britain stadium. Food and drink specials will be available through the Samuel Adams Rooftop Bar & Grill for all of your ballgame consumption needs. And at the end of the game, there will be a fireworks show, so hopefully the Rock Cats win so we will actually enjoy the giant, colorful explosions in the sky. That, and more parties below!

Make Patriotic Drinks At Home

This Fourth of July, skip the overly-expensive bars for some drinks you can make at home. Strawberry Rhubarb Daiquiris are red, Blueberry Margaritas are blue, and White Russians are, well, white. Or look at these cool drinks made by Connecticut’s own Stephanie Lamison of Hudson Grille.

Eat Something New

This Fourth of July, celebrate the different facets of our nation by eating non-traditional foods. Kashia Cave, founder of the non-profit My City Kitchen, came up with these delicious and healthy recipes that will break the monotony of unhealthy hot dogs, greasy burgers and dressing-slopped salads that normally make up an Independence Day meal. Opt instead for a flavorful fair of kabobs, ceviche, and stuffed peppers, detailed in the link below.

Know Your Firework Safety

Fireworks are completely illegal in Connecticut, not to mention dangerous. So if you don’t want to end up in the hospital handcuffed and covered in burns, obey the law and use only permitted fireworks, such as sparklers and fountains. You can purchase these items at Dapkus Fireworks Outlet in Durham, Bridget’s Sparklers in Clinton, and many other places that sell safe, legal fireworks. Go through the fireworks safety checklist with your loved ones to make this Fourth of July ER-free.

Take A Trip

This year, travel to another state to celebrate your Fourth. NYC has some of the best firework displays on the planet. Watch fireworks light up the skyline over the East River on the Brooklyn Bridge. It doesn’t get more New York than that. This list includes all the go-to spots this summer, if the Big Apple doesn’t float your boat.

Stay In Good Ol’ New England

Connecticut has 37 different firework displays going on during the first two weeks of July. New Canaan, Hartford, Salisbury, and many other towns will have fireworks and music set up for celebrators. Enjoy Fourth of July New England style and check out this extensive list of events right here in your home town.
