Meet ten-year-old Elena Tipton. She’s a fifth-grader at Thomas S. O’Connell Elementary School in East Hartford. She’s also Connecticut’s Kid Governor for 2016!

Connecticut’s Kid Governor program was recently implemented to encourage students to take interest in civics and government. Elena was one of seven finalists statewide out of hundreds who voted and were nominated. Her ‘Kindness Is Kool’ blog garnered much support.

“Originally, I had thought of bullying, then we turned it around to be something positive instead of negative,” Elena said. “Instead of saying people who are bullies are making a difference, try and make them be nicer.”

Secretary of the State Denise Merrill will administer the oath of office to Elena at the Old State House in Hartford, according to The Journal Inquirer.

Watch Elena talk all about her campaign and her classmates’ reaction to her victory in this adorable video! I’m beaming with pride for my hometown!

Many adults can learn a lot from this kid! Can she please run for Kid President?

Elena is smart. Be like Elena.
