Clara:  Clara is an adorable 18 month old hound mix. Sadly, Clara found herself in a kill shelter as a very young puppy and as a result missed out on some early socialization opportunities. Her ideal home would be a quiet home with an experienced dog owner who can help build her confidence. Clara needs that special someone who will be calm, patient and understanding of her needs and who will help her grow and flourish into the girl she deserves to be.  If you are interested in Clara, please contact Karen at 860-242-9999 x6 or email Karen@ourcompanions.org.

Mocha:  Mocha is a beautiful tortoiseshell black cat with orange, white and black streaks on her fur. She has a unique black streak that goes from her head to her pretty black button nose. Mocha was rescued in September 2009 as a stray cat in West Hartford. She is living with her rescuer/foster mom and waiting patiently for her forever home. Mocha is still very shy and will touch her foster moms leg when she wants to be held or played with but not before! Mostly she loves to play with the other cats living in her foster home. She really enjoys playing with the other kitties and is very talkative when playing. When not playing, Mocha likes to sit and look out the window or sit quietly off in the corner. Mocha is about a year old and is spayed, up to date on vaccines and tested negative for FIV and FeLV. She loves using her scratching post and falls asleep most nights on the post. Mocha also really loves her cat nip! Mocha would do best in a home without dogs and would thrive as a single pet in a home where she could be nurtured singularly. She would probably do well with other cats after an introduction and adjustment period.  If you would like more information about Mocha or would like to adopt her, please contact Kim at 860-242-9999 or kim@ourcompanions.org.

“Dancing with The Arc” is scheduled for Friday, March 26 at the Aqua Turf in Plantsville and it promises to be a fun-filled evening. Colin McEnroe has agreed to emcee the festivities and we anticipate a dozen incredible — or aspiring — dancers, and three judges, among them Susan Campbell of The Courant.

The evening will begin at 7 with an open bar, a light supper and desserts. The dance competition and judging will take place between 8 and 9, followed by a dance lesson for all and a time for dancing. Your significant other is, of course, invited to join you. As you may know, The Arc of Connecticut is an advocacy organization committed to protecting the rights of people with intellectual disabilities and related developmental disabilities and to promoting opportunities for their full inclusion in the life of their communities.

Listener Cara has been training with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training to hike the Grand Canyon on May 17th. She is doing this to raise a goal of $5,000 for LLS, an incredible organization that uses donated funding to further blood cancer research AND financially assist patients who are diagnosed. On March 21st from 4pm-7pm there’s a fund raiser at Abigail’s Grill and Wine Bar in Simsbury. For a $15 donation which will get guests $3 beer, $5 wine and mixed drinks, half priced appetizers and pizza, prize drawings and the chance to make a difference!
