This BTS Tweet Is the Most Popular Tweet of 2019

The K-pop group beat on an egg in the final frame

December 11, 2019

Challenge accepted.

On Monday Twitter released their data about the most popular tweets of the year, claiming that World Record Egg, the Twitter version of the most-liked Instagram photo in history, created in an attempt to get retweets, was the title holder for 2019.

BTS came in at number two on Twitter’s list, with a video of Jungkook dancing to Billie Eilish’s “bad guy” and featuring the obvious caption, “Duh.” But don’t ever tell the ARMY they’re number two at anything, within an hour the fans of the K-pop group pushed the tweet well past the egg, sitting comfortably now with 1.1 million retweets.

The record is the just the latest in an absolute monster year for BTS, shattering previously held milestones across socials, YouTube, and charts like it’s their job. The group also is the most tweeted about artists of 2019, beating out Ariana Grande, Drake, and Rihanna.

1. BTS
2. Ariana Grande
3. Drake
4. Rihanna
5. Cardi B
6. Justin Bieber
7. Beyoncé
8. Kanye West
9. Billie Eilish
10. Lady Gaga

Don’t expect 2020 to be any different, with RM promising this weekend that the next year is going to be big, filled with new music from the “Boy With Luv” group.

After accepting the award for Group of the Year at Saturday’s Variety "Hitmakers" brunch, the singer went on to tease fans about the future. “The great news is that we are currently working on our new music and new album and can’t wait to share them with you guys in the near future,” he explained. “I hope you guys are so excited to discover what BTS has in store in 2020.”
