Mortgage Talk: How To Be a Good Homeowner

August 28, 2019

Okay, so you've bought your new home... how do you be the best homeowner you can be?

The number one thing you need is to have a rainy day fund. The minute you close, something in the house is gonna break, and you need to have some extra money available to deal with those unforseen issues. If you can avoid putting it on a credit card, you definitely should.

You don't need to put 20% down on the home price... look for a loan that only needs 3%, and keep that extra money saved in case of emergencies. Some programs even do 100% financing, which can be great in certain cases.

If you find yourself in financial trouble, don't hide from it-- call your bank. They're not in the business of taking homes, and they will help you.
